Which commission structure works best for you?
Which commission structure works best for you? 529 336 Academy of Advanced Cosmetics

When entering the advanced cosmetic field, it is important for both business owners and permanent makeup artists to know the ends and outs of employee rates. At the Academy of Advanced Cosmetics, our expert professionals have compiled a variety of scenarios to assist business owners and cosmetic professionals with employee salary and payout rates. This article is designed to assist with frequently asked questions and our formula on commission vs. salons suites vs. business partnerships.

Let’s just say a busy spa offers a cosmetic position (Miroblading, Permanent Makeup, Paramedical Tattooing, Lash Extensions) and they have guaranteed clientele and provide marketing. It is recommended that a rate of 60% of the overall earning goes towards the busy spa and 40% of the artist. In this case, the artists would not be responsible for supplies, insurance, and full marketing; the hiring business would cover this. Should the busy spa require the artist to maintain insurance costs, it is suggested to negotiate 45%(spa), 55% (me). In some cases, 50/50 payout works. As an artist or business owner, it is important to determine a rate for the service which should factor average procedure time, supply costs, insurance, touch ups etc.

If an artist is working for a business and is SOLEY aims to build their own clientele through conducting his or her own marketing, this is considered a partnership and the artists are classified as an independent consultant who will receive a 1099 tax statement. AAC recommends a compensation agreement based on commission on the artist revenue from the procedure they perform only.  This commission rate would favor the artists more as he or she will put more work into gleaning clients and for providing notoriety to the business/brand. The artists can negotiate his or her hours and days of service based on their bookings.

Negotiating employment terms and job duties is always important for both the artist and the business owner and should be an agreement that benefits each party. It is important to note that If the business CANNOT provide admin support, some marketing, and clientele, then the artist can command a higher commission rate and would be responsible for generating new clientele. Business owners can set sales goals for the artists. It is ok to negotiate insurance fee costs and in many cases, business owners may opt to provide a monthly/annual insurance stipend. The artist who develops a partnership with businesses can also ask for key access and a stipend for any additional (tattoo) licenses annual fees or education assistance. With any partnership, the artist is solely representing the hiring company brand, location, mission, website, booking system etc.

Many advanced cosmetic professionals have opted to work in salon suites as a sole proprietor. This option has several benefits such as freedom to maintain and operate your own business as you see fit. With freedom, there is a COST. As an entrepreneur, it is the responsibility of the artist to maintain and manage all operations, marketing, payments, insurance and more. The best part about being an entrepreneur is setting your own business rules and taking your brand in a direction you see fit.

Academy of Advanced Cosmetics recommends a new artist to continue to develop their skill set so that the can command a high commission rate. Rates should ultimately reflect an artist skill set, expertise, and experience. For someone who is just starting out, he or she may consider working with an established business to let them do the hard work of getting clients and marketing.

Always keep in mind that ARTISTS IS VALUABLE. Artist has spent a lot of money, time and research on education, supplies, branding and much more.  Business owners have worked hard to build their brand and reputation and ultimately is financially responsible for their practice. This should also be considered in the negotiation process.  Both business owners and artist should keep in mind that SKILL will speak louder than words. Spas and other businesses look for the best and will pay for the best. LET WHAT YOU CAN DO BE YOUR BEST NEGOTIATOR.

Mastering MIcroblading Consultation
Mastering The Microblading Consultation
Mastering The Microblading Consultation 1024 683 Academy of Advanced Cosmetics

At the Academy of Advanced Cosmetics, we aim to provide our students with adequate training by covering all areas of importance, especially the consultation process. When students take a course with AAC, they learn how to conduct a full consultation and get hands-on training during their live model sessions. Students are provided with forms and have access to downloading a customizable template. This is one of the many benefits of the Academy of Advanced Cosmetics. Our team of cosmetic professionals has outlined the key steps needed to conduct a full consultation during the Microblading and Permanent Makeup process. These tools can also be performed before most cosmetic procedure consultations.

Conducting a professional Microblading or Permanent Makeup consultation address concerns and desired outcomes for the procedure. Having a professional dialogue with your client about their beauty needs, pigment color selection, eyebrow shape, lip color, eyeliner style, and stroke pattern are all common topics in order to best determine your clients’ goals and outcomes. You must discuss with your client, his or health current health challenges, medical history, and lifestyle to ensure that you are not putting your client at any risks. Be eager to educate and accommodate your client in a safe, sterile, and warm environment. Remember to be friendly, informative, and set clear expectations and goals.

When you are using pigments, it is important that you are knowledgeable of your pigment ingredients and possible allergens. Clients should complete an intake form, which should identify the clients’ contact profile, health conditions, allergies, authorization to take photos, understanding of the procedure, hazards, pain/discomfort, disclaimers, fees, and waivers. It is important that your consent form addresses what to expect and receipt of provided documents and or knowledge on pre and post-care.

What will you learn during the consultation is critical to the procedure itself. Lifestyle questions will help you determine if the procedure can be done and when, when a touchup may be needed (sooner or later) and gives direct insight to the activities in your client’s life and whether it will be conducive to the service itself. Medical history forms will identify current medical conditions. Always be mindful of any and all medications your client is taking. Waivers are important, as the client is taking ownership in understanding the details of the procedure provided, risks, and expected outcome.

Client consultation fees are recommended, we recommend a 10% non-refundable fee of the service or a flat fee of $25.00 to be assessed for a client consultation. Deposits are typically applied to the service fee if the client proceeds. Consultations can include as much as an in-depth conversation, patch tests, brow mapping, review of products that will be used, and visuals of your previous work. It is important to provide your client with a written or emailed document on pre-care and aftercare so that the client is aware of what to expect both prior to and after the procedure.

Addressing contradictions can be a tough conversation to have but is necessary. Microbladers & Permanent Makeup artists must be prepared to tell a client that he or she may not be a good candidate. Explain in detail your reasoning and if the client’s health may be at risk by moving forward. Be sure that you are being safe by avoiding legal risks in accepting clients you should not. Contradictions to remember including; anyone under the age of 18, pregnant or nursing, skin diseases, Botox treatments, chemical peels, and compromised immune systems. Diabetics can sometimes get the procedure they just have a slower healing process and Botox treatments must be done at least 3 weeks prior when Microblading.

All students of AAC learn the consultation process and are provided with consent forms. Students are instructed on the importance of before and after pictures, how to properly treat the brows, who is a good candidate and who isn’t, and much more. Learn our consultation process by attending one of our advanced cosmetics courses. Visit aactraining.com or call 770.751.9881 for more information and enrollment.

finding the right cosmetology course in atlanta

Microblading, tattoo training, and permanent makeup, oh my! Choosing the right course can be challenging, here’s some help:

Permanent makeup mimics the look of just-applied lipstick, lip liner, eyebrow pencil, eyeliner, etc. It’s done through a process called micropigmentation, where a tattoo pen is used to inject permanent ink into the skin. Permanent makeup can make it easier than constantly having to do and redo your makeup. However, it is a serious cosmetic procedure and it’s important to weigh the risks along with the benefits. We offer 2 training courses for permanent makeup which cover a variety of procedures.

  • Full Permanent Makeup Course: In this course which lasts 5 days students will learn hands-on techniques & the art of permanent cosmetic makeup application to the eyes, brows, and lips. Permanent makeup can be used to accentuate or darken the skin around the eyes, or on the lips to simulate a subtle sort of lipstick.
  • Lip And Eyeliner Course: This 3 day course will help students learn hands-on techniques about the application of permanent cosmetic makeup for the eyes, brows, and lips. Permanent makeup can be applied as eyeliner to accentuate the eyes, it can also be used to provide shape and/or color to the eyebrows, as the lip liner defines the lips, or to add color to the lips similar to lipstick.
  • Microblading Certification Course: This course is specifically designed for students interested in learning how to aesthetically work on eyebrows. Learn the art of three-dimensional hair simulation through a hands-on intensive education. Among other things students of the academy will learn about medical tattooing and cosmetic pigmentation. Students will be exposed to training in a specialized combination of art and science.

microblading training help

We offer eyebrow training courses in 3 specific procedures: elite, ombre and extensions. Elite brow procedures are a semi permanent eyebrow tattoo treatment which lasts 12-18 months . Hyper-realistic hair strokes are created using a microblade and very precise placement of these hair stokes to mimic the movement to that of a natural brow. Ombre procedures give a gradually darker appearance whereas eyebrow extensions, as the name suggest, make your eyebrows appear thicker and more beautiful in much the same way as traditional extensions do for the hair on your head.

Ombre Eyebrow Course: In this intense course you will learn the art and science of Ombre eyebrows over the course of a day. This is a great course to take either alone and or in addition to our 2 Day Microblading Course.

Elite Brow Specialist Course: In this intense 3 day course you will learn the art of Microblading and Ombre Eyebrow by utilizing a digital machine, Microblading hand tool and using proper shading needles. Our course will help prepare you for a career in the beauty Industry. This is a great course to take as you will gain the essentials need to become an Elite Brow Specialist.

Paramedical procedures are like quasi-medical and often don’t need a medical degree, but usually require at least some sort of certification.

  • Paramedical Tattooing Course: The Paramedical Tattooing Training Course which lasts 5 days requires trainees to have a previous Permanent Makeup certification. As a current experienced Permanent Makeup Specialist, this class is a must for those who would like to work in the medical field working closely with doctors. scalp micropigmentation procedures for men

Scalp Micropigmentation is the new thing. Falling under the larger banner of paramedical tattooing, which is growing at astonishing rates, it’s safe to say that SMP is the cosmetic procedure for men in 2018.

This is to say that practicing scalp micropigmentation not only a lucrative career choice but a smart one. Your earning potential is large, you have the unique ability to be your own boss, and you join a growing industry of professionals helping men and women improve their appearances.

Sound good, right? Keep reading to learn how to become certified scalp micropigmentation artist and take the next step in your career today!

For all its popularity, there are a lot of misconceptions about scalp micropigmentation. People tend to think it’s as simple as tattooing someone’s hairline. While this is true to an extent, SMP is much, much more.

At its most basic, SMP is a cosmetic tattooing technique that helps men and women replicate the look of hair on their scalps. It’s a form of permanent makeup, though don’t let the makeup moniker scare you away. SMP can be used to help with the following conditions:

  •         A receding hairline
  •         Male pattern baldness
  •         Alopecia
  •         Hair transplant mistakes
  •         Scalp deformities
  •         Hair deformities
  •         And more

Scalp micropigmentation procedures vary in length. They all start with a consultation. This is when you meet with potential clients to go over their goals for SMP, why they’re seeking SMP in the first place, their medical history, and any other relevant information. The SMP consultation process is also a great way to get to know your potential clients and start to form a connection that will lead to referrals down the road.

The actual scalp micropigmentation procedure will usually take two to three sessions. Each session will usually be between three to eight hours, depending on your client’s specific conditions and goals. It’s important to give your clients a minimum of thirty days between each session, so their scalp can heal and be ready for the next step.

A common question we get from students and people considering SMP alike is if the procedures are painful. This makes sense, remember SMP is a form of tattooing. One of the coolest parts of the entire process, though, is that SMP doesn’t hurt at all! This is thanks to a numbing agent you’ll use on your client’s scalp prior to beginning the procedure.

Another question we get asked quite often is how long does scalp micropigmentation last? It can last for up to five years, though everyone’s body is different and individual results are likely to vary. Regardless, it’s SMP is a great long-term solution to thinning hair and much, much more.

It’s important to know your market. After all, not everyone who contacts you for scalp micropigmentation is going to be an ideal candidate. While SMP can be used to help treat receding hairlines, alopecia, and those other conditions mentioned above – it’s NOT for everyone!

SMP is generally used to help men who are experiencing balding, thinning hair, want more hair density, or are looking for a more dramatic hairline. According to the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, SMP can also be utilized in other ways, including to help women with thinning hair and alopecia.

The quickest response to any questions about whether you should take the time to invest in learning SMP is a resounding YES. Not only is the industry itself undergoing rapid growth, but your earning potential is nearly unlimited.

The “ideal student,” although really there isn’t a single ideal student, are people with backgrounds in the hair industry, tattoo artists, and anyone with an interest in tattooing and micropigmentation.

Your earning potential with SMP is almost unlimited. Sessions usually start at $500, but as you perfect your craft and build a reputation as an SMP expert, your prices will rise. It’s not uncommon for former Academy of Advanced Cosmetics students to charge between $2,500 and $4,500 per client. You can see the appeal!

What are you waiting for? Check out our course schedule and sign up for your scalp micropigmentation training today!

scar and stretchmark camouflage and treatments
START A CAREER IN SCAR & STRETCHMARK CAMOUFLAGE 1024 538 Academy of Advanced Cosmetics

Most people can find areas on their face or body that they want to hide or make less visible. This can be due to a skin disease or condition, genetic blemishes, scars, surgery signs, and even burns. Whatever the case may be, you now have the ability to change someone’s life, and give them the peace of mind of having the look they’ve always wanted.
Want to know how? Continue reading!

Paramedical tattooing, also known as corrective camouflage, is the process of camouflaging through the tattooing of the skin with flesh tone pigments. The main objective of this treatment is to hide or lessen the appearance of a scar or skin area that has a deficiency in pigment or color.

As a paramedical tattooing professional, you must know and understand the science behind human skin, tissues, and pigmentation. Such methods require sophisticated knowledge, skills, and even an artistic inclination for implementing skin color and tones. You can learn all of this and become an expert quickly if you dedicate yourself to learning!

Before determining the length of the procedure or the number of treatments needed, you will first need to book your patient’s consultation. This will help you, the specialist, determine exactly what they need, and how many sessions they will require to fulfill the desired goal. Typically, an individual will need 2-3 sessions depending on the area targeted. Each session can take between 2-6 hours, depending on the area. If the individual is undergoing multiple sessions, each should be spread 30 days apart to allow healing time.

Not everyone is eligible for paramedical tattooing. This depends on the patient’s skin history, and perhaps the type of burn or marks. If a patient has port wine birthmarks, spider veins, freckles, aging spots, hyperpigmentation, under eye circles, or unstable Vitiligo, they are not fit for the procedure.

Any of the skin conditions mentioned above are best improved via non-micropigmentation medical methods such as chemical peels and lasers. Depending on what the patient is trying to treat, there are other solutions out there will be a better fit for them. Make sure you can guide them in the right direction. They have their hopes up!

The ideal candidate is one who is trying to rid of surgical scars, burns, stretch marks, and those who need micropigmentation.

When it comes to cosmetic procedures, many people immediately think of whether or not it is painful. Luckily, as the individual is numbed before the procedure, it is not painful. Before receiving the treatment, you will be able to desensitize the area so they do not feel any discomfort. This will ensure that the individual does not need to deal with unnecessary pains.
Once the paramedical pigmentation takes place, the individual will be able to maintain the new image for up to five years. If they wish to renew their look, they can always come in for another treatment.

Given you will be specialized in scar and stretchmark camouflage, your earning potential can be high. Each session starts at $500, and can range between two or three thousand, depending on size and series of the procedure. This area of expertise is in high demand and can bring you a great income once you become certified and start taking in clients.

The best students to take on this career path are those already in the cosmetic and beauty industry, who want to specialize in something unique. PMU, microbladers and micropigmentation artists are also great candidates as they already have a great background in tattooing and pigmentation. Lastly, entrepreneurs out there looking for a good service to offer that is in high demand, this is your breakthrough.

Now that you have the insider’s look on paramedical tattooing, you should take the next step in pursuing your career. The top-rated and most credible academy for this course is here to guide you. Sign up now for AAC’s 5-day Paramedical Tattooing course now!

I was so afraid that I would be scared once I left training to attempt this on my own, but it’s quite the opposite. I’m actually extremely excited and feel that I have been very educated. It’s also great that most items are included in your kit and you can also order, and take home any additional items you need at the end of class. With other trainings I have had to wait weeks before I could actually get started waiting on my supplies. So this is another reason why I LOVE AAC!!! I am able to get started right away! who's the boss?
WHO’S THE BOSS 560 315 Academy of Advanced Cosmetics

Job security is a nice concept, but it’s becoming harder to find in today’s economy. The unemployment rate is down, but that doesn’t always mean you have a secure future. Plus, with the rise of the gig-economy, part-time work doesn’t always cut it.

So why not be your own boss? Seriously, why not start your own permanent markupbusiness? It’s easier than you think and there are some serious benefits. We would know! We’ve been helping people redefine their lives through entrepreneurship for years here at the Academy of Advanced Cosmetics.

Keep reading to learn the benefits of being your own boss below and contact us today to start being your own boss!

With the popularity of microblading exploding, and the advanced cosmetic industry in general growing around 12% per year, there has never been a better time to start your own business. It isn’t always going to be easy, but it’s sure to be rewarding.

What does starting your own business and being your own boss look like? Well, the first thing you need to decide is the type of business you’re going to run. Georgia offers several types of incorporation, including: Limited Partnerships, Corporations, Limited Liability Companies (LLCs), Sole Proprietorships, and General Partnerships.

You’re probably going to want to choose a sole proprietorship. In a sole proprietorship, you’re the single owner. All profits, taxes, and liability rests on your shoulders alone. This is also the least regulated type of business you can start, which makes it a good option if you want to avoid forms upon forms upon forms. You report your business income on your personal taxes. All you really have to worry about is keeping accurate records of sales.

After picking the right type of business entity, it’s time for the fun to start. How are you going to market your business? How are you going to build your brand? How are you going to grow your company? How are you going to keep your clientele list?

We’re glad you asked! The very first thing you need to do is become the best permanent makeup artist you can. This means learning and mastering the following:

  •        Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)
  •        Paramedical Tattooing
  •        Ombre Eyebrows
  •        Lip and Eyeliner Permanent Makeup
  •         And more!

After you’re a certified master (literally!), it’s time to start marketing your business. This means the obvious: create a website, get active on social media, and run ads when appropriate. It also means networking with your teachers and other successful paramedical tattooing professionals.

Networking can be overwhelming, we know! That’s one of the reasons the Academy of Advanced Cosmetics offers a lot of tools to help you succeed. There is the 2018 Microblading and Permanent Makeup Conference. This is a great opportunity to meet hundreds of successful men and women who are their own bosses. You can learn from the best. There are also live demonstrations and more.

Now, what about keeping your clients once you have them? We hear that concern a lot and for good reason. Your business is only as successful as your clients. How can you keep them and keep being successful? The answer is much simpler than most people think.

You rock at what you do! Become the best, become a recognized industry professional, and your clients won’t leave. It’s that simple.

This is the part everyone wants to hear about. How much money can you make as your own boss? How much does a career in permanent makeup pay? Well, it all depends.

The average salary for paramedical tattoo experts is around $50,000. It varies, of course, but that’s a good number to keep in mind. That’s the average salary, though, it isn’t how much you can make as a business owner.

You can make as much money as you want when you’re your own boss. You aren’t paid a salary, you’re paid everything. This is what people mean when they talk about financial independence.

Of course, it isn’t as simple as open up shop and start making money. That’d be nice, right? To be truly successful, you have to put in the time, work, and energy mentioned above. This isn’t difficult, but it isn’t simple either.

Sold on being your own boss? Then check out the Academy of Advanced Cosmetics’ course schedule and enroll today. Your future self will thank you!
